OK so last night at about 9pm, we were just starting to close the shop and a
storm hit. There was massive thunder and lightning and of course it was pouring.
The winds were the worst I had ever seen, but little did I know that the rest of
the night was going to even worse! Craig had driven us both in yesterday, so I
didn't have the Jeep. All the roads were starting to flood, but we knew we could
make it home and had to, because of our dogs. So on the way home, I saw the most
lightning I have ever scene in my entire 28 years on this planet. Needless to
say, I had to try to get some pics. A friend of us called and was trying to meet
us at our house, but he got lost on the other side of my town because trees were
going down left and right, and they kept re-routing everyone. I told him just to
meet us at the Quick Check so he didn't end up where I couldn't find him. So we
get off our exit on the parkway and it was pitch black. The entire town had lost
power due to all the trees that came down. Now we live on a street that is
enclosed within all dead ends, except for one street that is the only way in and
out of our little section. Well, finally at about 9:30 pm, we make it through
the town and get to that street and two trees had fallen, blocking our way in
and knocking down all the power lines that were now twitching in the street. My
mother in law had gone to our house right before the storm to make sure that the
dogs were ok and by the time she tried to leave, she couldn't get out just like
we couldn't get in. When she got in touch with me and I knew everyone was ok
(including the jeep) we drove around a bit to see if anyone needed help. I swear
there must have been at least two or 3 trees that had split, broken or fallen on
every block in our town. Someone's Honda had gotten struck by lightning and
caught fire and the firemen had to break into his house to make sure there was
no one home, and turns out the family is on vacation. Long story short, at 2am
this morning, the firemen finally walked us through the block to our house and
we finally got home. This morning when we got up, the entire town was in total
chaos. The trees are still blocking the street everywhere and still no way in or
out except on foot, which we had parked the car about 10 blocks away, so that we
knew we'd be able to get to work today. I have honestly never seen anything like
it in my life. I'm so tired we didn't really sleep because it was 96 degrees out
and were without electricity, which looks like we won't get it back until
Friday. I didn't get many pics because I only had my cell phone, but here's one
of the lightning on the way home and the car that was on fire.
OK, I just got a phone call at the shop (8:30pm 6/12/08) WE GOT OUR POWER
BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Ugh that sucks. I swear I felt
like one of those storm chasing
people. Looking around at all the
debris and neighborhood people
freaking out, it was quite a
humbling experience. I know it
wasn't the worst that could
happen, but the worst that I've
experienced and I can only imagine
what other people go through, such
as the Katrina victims. |

Glad everyone was ok. I have seen
some really bad thunderstorms
before being from florida but we
just had one of the loudest
tonight at work that I have ever
witnessed. And the worst part... I
had to stay in a metal building
through the whole storm!
:fear: haha! |
