Install of 3.5" Rubicon Express lift

SO I finally pulled the trigger on a RE 3.5" standard lift kit and a set of Dck Cepek Fun Country II 33x12.50x15s and Cepek DC-1 Black 15x10's. Took a week off of work for the install to make sure I had plenty of time to get it done and in case anything went wrong I had time to get it fixed before I had to go back to work as my Jeep is my DD.

Started at 11AM on Monday. Jacked it up, pulled the sway bar links, pulled the track bar off, all too easy. Went to unbolt the shocks and for the next hour I fought with the driver side shock. The nut on the top of the shaft holding it in must have been torqued at 8000 ft/lbs from the factory b/c it would not move and the small amount of rust on it was not helping. after an hour of trying to get the nut off, broken skin, bloody knuckles, and a huge gash on the back of my arm I decided that a 4" grinder is in order. I ground the shock shaft into 4 flat sides and put a cresent wrench on the shaft so it won't turn. Then put an impact wrench on the top bolt through the hole under the hood and the bolt finally snaps off! The passenger side was more of the same. So after getting the shocks off we put the coils in, the new shocks and the new sway bars. Add new tires and wheels and the front is done!!!! It is 9:30 so I go home and go to bed.

Tuesday...11AM I start the rear end. Jack up the rear, pull the tires, loosen sway bars and track bar. Go to take out shock on driver side. While turning the inside bolt on the top of the shock the head snaps off. MORE SHOCK PROBLEMS!! : I try not to panic and work on the other side. The passenger side shock comes off without a hitch along with the sway bar and coil. I then put on the track be relocation bracket. The spacer they give you for the TJ application is not big enough to let the bolt go through so we had to buy a slightly smaller bolt.

Back to the broken shock bolt. We drill and tap and try to use a bolt extractor... no luck. We finally drill a hole as close to the old one as we could then put washers on the new shock bolts I bought. Put new shocks, coils and sway bar links on both sides along with tires and wheels!! Lookin Good!!

Wed 3PM...Put on Xfer case drop and take it for a test drive. It is MADDDDD out of allignment but the only vibe I had was about 35-40 mph. Put a couple washers on Xfer case drop problem solved.

Last step... add 7" Rugged Ridge fender flares and my baby is done.

IF you can ......definitely put your own lift on. Afterwards you'll be happy you did... and when everyone asks where you got it done you can smile and say.. I DID IT MYSELF (with help from my uncle... mad props to him)!!!

Pictures of my rigs new look coming soon!!!
