I put the hard top on over the weekend. We had the first frost last night. Sure is a lot quieter with the hard top.

Well, I missed the long line of nines on the odometer, but it did roll over to a long line of zeros. so there you have it, this 95 wrangler finally has over 100,000 miles on it.

My Jeep is coming up on 100,000 miles for the first time. I'll probably try to take a picture of all those 9's when they are lined up on the odometer. Not long now, only have 2 more 9's to fill in.

Testing the rain cover

The morning after installing the new PVC bow, we had several lines of thunderstorms come through the area. I'm very happy with the result! No damage to the cover and no huge puddle to deal with.

I got some PVC parts and pieces and put together a bow to hold up the rain cover. Without this, the cabin cover gets a puddle of water in the space above the front seats. This holds the cover up so the water runs off. I saw it here on the forum somewhere and I made one for about 7 bucks. I'm going to make these for the tarp on my M416 also, so I can leave it outside without filling it up with water or leaves or snow or whatever.

Not much

Not much new. The vertically driven rain cover has been working out well. I've been managing to go all week with no top. With autumn approaching, I'm using it to keep the leaves out of the Jeep too. It's quite stiff when cold though, and it gets little creases in the canvas. I'm guessing it will crack and tear at some point. I'm starting to think about the hard top. I'd like to make it till the first snow without the hard top, but I'll probably put it back on when the temperature starts getting into the lower 30's. Maybe it will be December, we'll see.

Well, I guess that's the end of that. Pep Boys put an inspection sticker on it yesterday with no comment or complaint. Now I can get back to fixing things I want to fix.

I opted not to have the emissions test again, so my inspection sticker got back dated to June, which kinda sucks, but at lest it was only another $28 wasted this time around. It's an ugly sticker for $28. I bought a Eugene sticker at the Jeep show for about $5, it was a much better purchase.

Inspection - take 2.

Tomorrow will be the second attempt at the state vehicle inspection. I replaced the muffler and half fixed two of the body bushings. I bought the poly bushings a while back and haven't gotten them installed yet. Two of the stock rubber bushings had broken away (just the bottom half). I finally got the bolts loose. It only took soaking with PB, which is great, since I've read so much on here about cutting holes in the tub and such. Anyway, the bolts came loose and I replaced just the lower half and put the bolt back in. We'll see if that's enough to get by.

New bolts for the body mount job are definitely something I'd like to do. The qtech stainless kit is tempting, since it appears to be all the bolts in one place. Then I could take my time replacing things a bit at a time.

Can't wait to see if this ends tomorrow of if there is something else 'wrong' with this Jeep. I think there should be some amount of money you can pay to just get the stupid sticker. maybe I don't understand how this system works. Am i supposed to tip the inspector or something?

my fun commute

So this is my daily driver, and I've put nearly 20,000 miles on it since I got it last May. This was bound to happen eventually. I pretty much figured I'd hit a deer or lose control and roll over or something, but my first damage was a bump from behind. (never even saw it coming, you might say)

My first thought was to go look at the other guys car. I've read so much on here about what happens when newer cars run into some raw steel. I had the hitch back on for York, and I'm glad for that. I hadn't gotten the bumperettes re-installed though. It probably would have been better for the other vehicle if I had.

As it turned out, my right rear got pushed a little. The other guys hood was buckled from my spare and he got a big 2 inch receiver shaped hole punched in the plastic bumper cover. I feel a little bad, I hope his insurance covers all of the about $800 damage he just did to his car. I'm just gonna hit mine with a mallet this weekend. I guess this answers the question I've been wondering about.....not really everyone is staring at me and my Jeep in awe and wonder everywhere I go. I feel that special in my Jeep, but I guess some other people don't notice me at all!

PA Jeeps show in York PA

Here is a photo of us setting up at York this past weekend. We put up a sun shade to keep the kids from melting. (us too) I would have liked to have the top off the whole time, but sun burn isn't worth it.

We all had fun, but the kids were very proud of the 2nd place finish. Thank you very much for the votes. The girls washed the Jeep the previous weekend, vacuumed the interior and wiped up all the dirt on the dash and panel. I'm happy that they got something for their effort and I hope that it is enough to keep them dreaming about next year and years to come.
