the kids did some cleaning inside and out. Looks like mostly what we
accomplished was scratching some paint. I hate washing cars. The kids did a
good job cleaning up the inside, sweeping and wiping everything off. It was
really dirty.
The plastic rear wheel wells got re-installed, after spreading some rust
converter on everything. The hitch got re-installed. I thought this would be
easy, but I had to grind the new rear shackle bolts. The new bolts were longer
than the old ones, and this hidden hitch wraps around right there.
The muffler got replaced. Had to cut the old one off. I used the grinder and
thinned the metal along the length of the muffler inlet and outlet pipes (which
fit over the Catalytic converter in the front and over the tail pipe in the
back). After I got it paper thin I was able to bend it open with a screw
driver, then rip it back with vise grips. Installing the replacement was not
that easy. Turns out it was about 1/2 an inch longer the the old one. I cut
the needed 1/2 inch off the tail pipe. I also cut about 5 inches off the other
end of the tail pipe. It was hitting the hitch, making it impossible to line
everything up and get it assembled. Fortunately, it still sounds the same.
