Hello everyone.....I just created a new group called the Dirty South Jeepers! I
am trying to get the group up and going because I would like to meet some new
people around my neck of the woods. I just added myself to a few groups, but i
wanted to create on for me and other jeepers for the "South". Plus i wanted to
be able to maybe link up with some folks to get a ride together and to be
notified of rides, events, etc. Thanks everyone and join today...
hi i have a 1991 and it has the stock alarm system and for some reason it wont
start i checked the battery and fuel system, does the alarm have a security
system that wont let it start??? thanks
so im down here in Camp Lejeune NC and im noticing some "shimmy"......i look
down and im doing 30mph. ok.......ill check it out later. get on the highway
yesterday and i hit 60mph and im white knuckle driving just to keep the thing on
the road! haha i think i threw a wheel weight. i hope thats all it is! im
probably gonna check it out today some time.
Went to U-pull-it junkyard in chicago, got rear passenger windows for my XJ.
Also got to fuel lines that hook to the fuel rail. I accidently cut them while
pulling out the motor. Gas tank is the last thing on the agenda. Saw numerous
XJ's and ZJ's and MJ's there, only one ZJ had a Dana 44 rear end, but they got
that crappy aluminum housing.
Working on getting a few dollars together to buy my buddy's axles,
Front-Ford Dana 60 4.56 gears and a Powerlock, Rear- Corp 14 bolt, 4.56 gears,
and Detroit Locker. I'm gonna spring it over and run my 39.5 Iroks. Too many
projects.
There are a bunch Modifications I plan on doing, but being a poor high school
student I can only afford to buy one piece at a time, as I get parts I will post
a description of the part, Pictures and a description on the installation (any
problems encountered, etc..)
I took off my side moldings today it looks so much better without them all i
needed was a hairdryer, and adhesive remover took about an hour.
So an unwanted repair came about this weekend, all because i had to drive like a
jacka$$. long story short cherokees are not meant for drifting even if its wet
out!. i bent the front outer axle (drivers side) and the left axle assembly in
the rear as well as putting a nice bend in the tie rod. it was about $350 for
the parts including shipping i purchased them from www.jeep4x4center.com great
service speedy delivery. doing the repair this sunday.
Always wanted a Cherokee so I finally bought one. Then it got stolen, 4 days
later. I hadn't even had a chance to get her dirty yet. Well I got her back, but
it was gruesome. Now I'm on the search for another XJ...
Earlier this year i reaplaced my blown AW-4 transmission with a newer 30-43LE.
After installing the new transmission I filled up my fuel tank and began
driving. I put about 120 miles on my Jeep and was quite please with the new
transmission. Saturday, March 28th i took it out to Chockcherry Canyon to play
around on the sand-stone. It did quite well, but I took extra precautions to
help prevent a tranny failure. It did fine on the rocks so I brought the Jeep
home to check the fluid levels. It was then i noticed the Gearbox had a slight
leak, and i had lost about a pint of ATF. So I topped it off and changed the oil
and coolant. Sunday morning I drove to a frends house about 20 miles from my
own, where it all went down hill. We drove it to the gas station at the
state-line between Aztec, NM, and Durango, CO. There i noticed ATF burning off
my exhause pipe. I stuck my head under the Jeep to check for any visible damage
to the pan and saw nothing. I then checked around the pan to see if there might
be a crack in the seal. Fortunately there wasn't, but the damage was already
done. After we filled up a gas can we climbed into the Jeep to head back home.
When I turned the starter over the drive gear made an aweful grind against the
flywheel. I then climbed back underneath, when i noticed a crack. About 4 inches
ling spreading from the upper starter mounting bolt, back almost to the
transmission itself. We got my recovery jack from under the seat and jacked the
crack closed and started the Jeep(an old trick my dad taught me). I then babied
the poor Tank back to my friends house to drop him off, then finished the drive
back home at an astounding 15mph. As of now im going to pull the transmission
back out and hopefully weld the crack back together with my Power Mig welder. I
will also flush the transmission with Marvel's Mystery Oil, and replace the
front main seal, the rear main, and the pan gasket, re-install it, fill it back
up and hopefully i can get it back together and on the road in a fasionable
time.
Long story. My Jeep Grand Cherokee was misbehaving, sort of like missing. My
wife was driving it, had no choice but to take it to a dealer service center in
the Pittsburgh area. Carbon buil-up in the throttle body was the diagnosis,
$700 was the charge. Being quite a distance from home, what's a girl to do.
Anyway, I called and spoke to the service guy and he explained how special
cleaning chemicals had to be circulated through the system, expensive chemicals
from Chrysler. As I indicated, there wasn't much to be done.
Is this a rip? How expensive are these cleaning chemicals? Or is this a
relatively legitimately priced service. I understand and expect that a
dealership is going to be a bit pricier than a mom-and-pop, but this sounds a
bit much.
Thanks.
BTW, I couldn't find how to post this in one of the forums, which is why it's
here.
