i have a 90 yj with a 2.5 5 speed. i bought a wrecked 90 cherokee with a 4.0. i want to put the 4.0 in my wrangler. How big of an undertaking is this swap and what will i need to make the conversion- extra parts, wiring, etc? will my 5 speed work with the 4.0 or will it need to be changed as well?

So my town is having a serious parking melt down where there isn't even a free spot or 2 for the library when you are just running in to drop off. So I parked it in the street went to put on the 4 ways... guess what.. oh yes you did guess right, they arent working. Neither are my indicators again. (meaning this happened in august when I first bought it) So hopefully fixing them will be as cheap as last time (free).
On the plus side. Kritter is still not leaking oil post getting the u joints fixed , and I managed not to rip anything off when I was on some forestry roads and found the world most ridiculous washbarding on a hill and I was scraping the undercarriage getting through it. Little kritter is proving to be tough but I am still struggling to figure out the 4 high with the standard 4 cyl. I'm thinking it may be purely a slick highway thing to keep the back end from kicking out because so far 4 high has been useless to me on the trails with this jeep.

Well, I missed the long line of nines on the odometer, but it did roll over to a long line of zeros. so there you have it, this 95 wrangler finally has over 100,000 miles on it.

Many Jeeps in one (Jeep Mutts)

I would like to see (or read about) anyone that has built a Jeep out of many Jeeps ie. CJ 3 body, with a Willys p/u nose with Comando doors and a XJ half roof or something like that. I'm sure there is some out there, but lets see them. I have wanted to build something like this for some time but just haven't yet. I've seen YJs with CJ nose clips and that Jeep Truck build that is awesome I must add. Perhaps you could even give me some ideas on a crazy mixed up build. I just wanted to hit this topic while I was thinking of it. Maybe I missed something similar here on JF. Let me know.

This rig(link at bottom) recently came up under Autotrader.com on a car lot which was bought by dealer auction out of CO, this thing is clean no doubt. 4.0 I6/D44/NV3550/NP231...everything i'm lookin for. The price is right i'm hoping to walk out the door give or take at 10k. I prefer paint to be white/black/silver which this is one of. Best of all. ITS STOCK BABY

The only concerns I had was..
  • Bald tires, out of balance, felt small vibes 60-70mph(Dealer had intentions and promised to get new Futura AT 31s on tomorrow when I come back)
  • Bumpstop was ripped out and sitin inside the passenger coil(lol, possibly just vibrated and unthread itself considering spotted no damage)
  • Rear driver side tub corner has a minor dent/body damage. This is no concern to me and its great to work the price down a bit.

EDIT/UPDATE: After going down today for another test drive, everything as promised was done and she rides smooth. I'm now looking for a local credit union!
  • Tires were switched out with new Futura AT 31s as promised. No more vibe/shimmy at high speeds as expected.
  • Bumpstop re-attached
  • I mentioned if he would check the rear main seal for a leak, it was hard to tell since they clean it often it appeared. Though it was replaced, if this is not the case i have 30day 30kmile warranty to bring it back to the dealer for repair/refund.

Final UPDATE!: Talked from 11,900 to 10,300. Came out to 10,6XX OTD. I was satisified.
Should be the owner tomorrow afternoon(Thursday).

Yes this link is some reason huge..

What could be cooler?

Since I bought the Jeep I’ve learned a thing or two about wheeling. Oh sure, there are a lot of technical issues to run down. Not least among them is the selection of tire. Size does matter!

The size of the tire you want to run will practically dictate what axle, differential gearing and minimum lift height you will have to have. The fun thing is that within any given set-up there are still a lot of options to pick from to meet the needed spec’s.. Are you happy with body lift or do you want spring lift? Will you need long arm or short arm, or perhaps you’re running leaf springs and only need taller shackles. The list can get rather long!

All that is rather satisfying to our inner nerd, but hey, there’s more. Next you get to enjoy ‘Christmas in July’ when the boxes of ordered parts arrive by UPS! Then it’s off to the garage and the self esteem builder. There is nothing as truly satisfying as finishing a build. Even if you needed a prefab kit and step by step instructions to get’er done, it doesn’t matter once the thing is finished! You have the satisfaction of knowing, “I did it myself!” And driving it down the road or out on the trail is proof of a job well done.

Then there is the ultimate high. The superior reward of wheeling with a group that comes when one guy or another needs you to drive up/around/through whatever has him stuck and throw him a tow strap. Yep… all that time and money pays off in huge self esteem strokes when you can go and do what others can’t.

But until I get there, I’ll have to settle for the little things. What I call the Barbie-doll effect. I’ve never owned a vehicle that had as many dress-up options as a Barbie-doll until I bought the Jeep. Now I can run topless, soft topped, safari topped, bikini topped or hard topped. I can run with no doors, half doors, tube doors or full doors. I can swap bumpers, fenders, roll bars, seats, or opt for various styles of grill and hood that have come down through the years. I can dress it up with options such as off road lights, rock lights, top carriers, spare tire racks and perches for additional gear. I can adorn it with shovels, jacks and spare gas cans. I can justify 2 way radios, GPS locators and various other high-end electronics. A Jeep has more dress-up options than a Barbie has clothes!

How cool is that!

It may be built on an assymbly line like every other car out there, but after a few mod's I'll never have the problem of getting my Jeep confused with someone else's. It is uniquely mine!
